Forget dog walking: now you can bring people walking

A recent video has revealed a ’weird job’ that you may not have heard (or thought) of before.

Circa reported the story of Chuck McCarthy, the man who has taken dog walking to the next level by walking people instead.

Circa says that McCarthy "had no interest in picking up poop and enjoys walking and talking".

Don’t we all?

Although the video concentrates on the social aspect of his service, his height of 6’2" and weight of 235lbs gives McCarthy a powerful stature that could be reassuring to anyone seeking a sense of safety during a walk or perhaps a run.

Just think of the recent murder of jogger Vanessa Marcotte, who was found dead about a half-mile from her mother’s Princeton home.

Of course, nobody should have to be escorted while walking or jogging, but a service such as this may provide a sense of security to vulnerable people or people who are nervous about walking alone.

At $7 per mile, the price of McCarthy’s service is quite affordable and for people who are afraid to venture out alone it could provide them with a priceless freedom.

However, whether this would be popular in Ireland is anyone’s guess, especially as we’re often too reluctant to go outside over the weather - nothing except a roof over your head is going to save you from that.
