#WatermelonBoy has stolen the hearts of the internet

An Australian kid has became a bit of an online celebrity over the weekend after footage of him eating a watermelon whole like an apple, rind and all, went viral.

Mitchell Shibecki was at Saturday’s Women’s Big Bash cricket match in Melbourne when, we guess, he fancied a snack.

Take a look.

Soon #WatermelonBoy was trending and Mitchell was the internet’s hero - although people had a few questions.

It seems that, perhaps disappointingly, Mitchell decided to do it in advance, to get attention.

"I’ve seen people do weird stuff and they got on the big screen and I thought I might do it myself," he said.
