Today, China posted the biggest stock market loss in almost a decade, and there were widespread fears of a HUGE drop in the UK’s crucial Dow Jones exchange.

But the best story about Dow Jones actually comes all the way from 2011.

Journalist Laura Nelson, who we assume was googling "Dow Jones", discovered an absolute gem from the New York Times four years ago, when the market tanked 500 points - so they called him to ask how he was feeling.

Yes, Mr Dow Jones, 92, of Arkansas, told financial reporter Kevin Roose on that occasion that he was "having a wonderful day!" in what might be the finest piece of Wall Street coverage ever printed.

Even the journalist himself tweeted that he thought that short piece might well be "the best markets reporting of my career".

But how, you ask, is Mr Jones today, when his namesake dipped by just a little, rather than the crisis everyone feared?

"I’m worried about calling him back," Roose tweeted, saying Mr Jones was, after all, in his 90s in 2011.

We hope he’s performing well and exceeding expectations.

- The full original piece can be read on the New York Times Dealbook site.
