Cork photographer’s footage of Wild Atlantic Way is astoundingly beautiful

We’ve seen lots of drone footage of pretty Irish tourist spots, but this one is really amazing.

Peter Cox, a landscape photographer from Cork, is capturing a number of images for a new book of aerial photographs of Ireland called 'Atlantic Light: The West Coast of Ireland in Photographs', and he has been filming some drone footage at the same time for over a year.

"Over the past few years, I've been doing more and more aerial photography," says Peter.

"I've been fortunate enough to fly out to and even land on some of the most isolated spots on the Irish coast, the offshore lighthouses perched on dramatic crags, wave lashed by the Atlantic.

"In the last year, since the advent of drones that can carry a professional camera, I've been employing that technology to capture images that have proved impossible, or at the least impracticable until now.

"I believe this book will show the west coast of Ireland in a way that it never has before."

The resulting video is breathtaking.

Shooting the video wasn't without its risks.

"I've spent many days and weeks in the field capturing images for this project, challenging wind and wave," peter says.

"As drone technology is still in its infancy, problems do occur and I've dealt with several, including one spectacular failure off the end of Loop Head the morning before the cover image was made.

"That one resulted in one of the drone's engines being torn off its mount due to a thrown rotor blade. Thankfully, I was able to recover it without incident and was flying again the next day."
