12 must see movies for a great Halloween
Scary costumes, lots of sugary treats, and of course, more parties than you can shake a witches broom at, it must be Halloween!
But if that isn't your scene then we may have the solution for you.
Our favourite part of Halloween is the movies that suit this time of year so perfectly.
So whether you browse the TV Guide or dust off the DVD's, here are our recommendations for some classic "spooky" movies guaranteed to keep you up at night.
For the whole family
The story of Jack Skellington will have a it's songs stuck in your head for days after watching but it is totally worth it. It also makes a good Christmas movie, but it's too early to be thinking about that.

The bumbling tale of the Sanderson Sisters has long been a favourite of many people and has earned its place as one of the best family movies ever made.

The live action movie of the iconic cartoon character touched our hearts from the day it came out. If you can resist shedding a tear at this fantastic family film, you are a braver soul than we are.

Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Need we say anymore when it comes to this family classic.

Whilst not the scarriest films, they have plenty of witchcraft and wizardry to keep the whole family entertained. Pick one, sit down with a bucket of popcorn and enjoy. Better yet, watch them all!

Not one for the faint hearted. We still can't listen to Mike Oldfield's without running for Mammy.
This huge hit spawned what would become one of the most successful horror movie franchises of all time.
This is one creepy movie from director Gore Verbinski. For that extra scare factor, watch the original Japanese version released in 1998.
The film that inspired the 'horror documentary' genre and movies such as and is a definite must see.
Possibly one of the most popular horror movies ever made, certainly when it comes to Halloween masks, you would do well not to miss out on this cinematic experience.
The movie that made entire generations terrified to sleep at night, this is a staple for a horror movie night over Halloween.
This film goes down in history as one the greatest movies ever made and terrified the life out of anyone who saw it. Having netted five Oscars it also created one of the scariest and most menacing villans in cinema history, Hannibal Lector.
Honourable mention
It's an oldie but it is most definitley a goldie. What it lacks in scare it more than makes up for in atmosphere and character. This movie inspired our image of Dracula and many of the modern day vampire movies and tv shows owe a lot to the Dracula back story.
The portrayal of Count Dracula by horror movie legend, Bela Lugosi, captured the imagination of millions and is considered the best performance of the character, even to this day.
