Ireland's call: Your top 10 Facebook responses to the 'motto for Ireland' challenge

Our Facebook post was prompted by a new campaign organised by the Better Together campaign who have asked the Irish people to come up with a slogan for Ireland.

The Better Together group aim to build support for community groups and charitable organisations.

After posting the story on our Facebook page, we received a number of responses ranging from the bizarre to the brilliant.

Variations of "Sure, tis grand" were by far the most popular but here are some of our favourites.

1. Barry Creed - Limerick: "A beautiful little country if we could only roof it."

2. Graham Smith - Balbriggan: "Come to Ireland where the water is nearly as dear as the beer."

3. Bryan Shane Byrne: "Broke but Brave."

4. Deirdre Kenneally Condon: "Historic, enduring, evolving, energetic. enquirying, welcoming, cultural and fun."

5. Ben Freeman - Dublin: "If we dont talk about it. it did not happen."

6. Seoirse Ó Duíc - Kerry: "Tradition, culture and spirit."

7. Susan Oliver - Limerick: "Do it for the Craic."

8. Richie Moore: "We Want Our Country Back"

9. Emma Bennett: "Ireland - where the grass is always greener."

10. Fiona Byrne - Galway: "I will, yeah."

...and our own recommendation: "Grand soft day, thank God!"
