Bruce to boss Leeside on concert tour
The 63-year-old ‘Born in the USA’ star confirmed yesterday that he will perform an outdoor spectacular with his E Street Band at Páirc Uí Chaoimh next July as part of a three-date tour of the country.
He will also bring his Wrecking Ball tour to Limerick and Belfast.
Music promoter Peter Aiken said he had always wanted to bring Springsteen to Cork. “He is, as far as I’m concerned, the biggest act in the world,” said Mr Aiken.
Mr Aiken, whose firm brought U2 to Páirc Uí Chaoimh in 1987, and who staged Springsteen’s concerts in Dublin’s RDS last summer, said he did not think he would get him back to Ireland so soon.
Mr Aiken, who is behind the Live at the Marquee concerts, said its success played a key role in persuading Springsteen to play Leeside.
Bob Ryan, chairman of Cork County Board, said: “This will be a huge boost for Cork and we are hoping that it will put us back on the concert map for the future.”
Noise curfews cut short Springsteen’s gigs in London and Dublin, but Cork’s city manager Tim Lucey said his officials would assess the concert licence once it is lodged.
“We will do what we can to facilitate this gig,” said Mr Lucey. “It will be of significant benefit to the city and will have a long-term lasting impact in terms of showcasing how Cork can host events of this scale.”
Tickets go on sale at 9am on Dec 6, priced €90, and €100 seated.
