First look at Colin Farrell and Emma Fogarty's upcoming documentary on living with EB
Emma Fogarty and Colin Farrell's new documentary The Slightest Touch hits HBO Max on November 26.
A first look at a new documentary led by Colin Farrell which delves into living with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) has been released.
The documentary will follow the story of Farrell and his good friend, Emma Fogarty, who was born with the condition which causes her skin to blister and tear at the slightest touch.
The pair, who have spent years raising awareness about EB and who have crossed the finish line of the Dublin Marathon together, will appear in the upcoming HBO Max documentary,
Refusing to be defined by her disease, Fogarty has built a life marked by resilience, purpose, and an unwavering determination to live on her own terms.
As she turned 40, an age doctors once believed she would never reach, Fogarty and her longtime friend Colin Farrell embarked on the challenge of completing the Dublin Marathon together. After running the full marathon himself, Farrell joined Fogarty for the final four kilometres, pushing her wheelchair one kilometre for each decade that she has lived with EB.
An intimate portrait of Fogarty’s life with EB, revealing the relentless pain she endures, the dreams she has had to relinquish and reimagine, and the resilience with which she navigates each day, Slightest Touch is also a moving celebration of friendship, community, and the extraordinary strength found in human connection with Farrell by Fogarty’s side throughout.
The trailer for the documentary, which was released begins with Farrell leaving Fogarty a voice note, saying: “How are you doing, darling? I just wanted to leave you a little voice note. I know your dreams have been taken from you. I have a dream now to make this film together. We'll speak soon. Alright, bye, love.” Fogarty replies: “I'm not winning at all, but you know me... Smile's always on”.
Reflecting on how taking part in the Dublin Marathon first came up, Farrell says he suggested to Fogarty about two years prior that they should run a marathon together.
He says that about a year later, he received a text from Fogarty, which read: "You know when you said we should run a marathon?"
Elsewhere in the trailer, Emma says: “I have EB. That means you deteriorate with age. Somehow, I've got to 40.” She goes on to highlight that she has been diagnosed with cancer twice, lost her leg, and has an open wound on her bum.
“You’re not filming my bum, okay? It’s not that kind of movie,” she can be seen saying to camera.
Farrell says that while he has never had a camera crew come near his home before, the reason he is doing so now is for Emma.
“The reason I'm here is the same reason you're here: it's for Emma. Just those three words: It's for Emma. It's for Emma. It's for Emma,” he says.
Speaking about the Dublin Marathon, Colin says: “This could be very bad for her, but this means a lot to her. She doesn't deserve the pain afterwards, but she deserves the experience, and you can't have the one without the other.”
- The documentary airs on HBO Max on November 26.
