Traitors Ireland episode seven recap: Is Carla finally feeling the heat?
It feels like the faithfuls are closing in on OG traitor Carla
“Sign me up, kid.” That was Pauric O’s response when Carla offered him the chance to join her as a traitor.
“I’ve never been as happy in my life to be blackmailed,” the musician grinned.
“He could be playing me,” Carla acknowledges, so she hasn’t let her guard down, but it does seem like this is a pairing that could make it a bit further than previous blackmails. Of course, that wouldn't be very hard...
“Sam or Ian?” Carla asks, going in nice and hot by suggesting their first murder is within their own friend group. They decide on Sam, but we wonder if leave Ian alive might come back to haunt them.
They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and so far this season, it certainly seems to determine how the rest of the day will go.
“David looks relaxed. It’s obviously his second day being a traitor,” Pete observes over the croissants.
Ian, meanwhile, has his guard up after the previous night’s roundtable. He tells Donal and Janet that Aoife made eye contact with him and tapped her slate before revealing Carla’s name.
“It was like she was giving me a sign," he shares.
When Sam doesn't return for breakfast, Pete is devastated.
“Sam is the name of my son. Sam was my adopted son,” he says.
Fair play to the production team for that dramatic swelling music – we almost shed a tear ourselves.
Carla notices Janet is laughing away and clocks that it might be to her advantage. She’s right. Pete immediately sets his sights on her.
“Just... strange behaviour,” he says.
Diego also brings up Janet’s name. “She dominates conversations,” he says.
“She’s everywhere,” Kayleigh agrees.
Anna says she’ll be voting David. “It’s been in my gut.”
“Your gut doesn’t lie,” Pauric O assures her.
Today’s mission sees the group divide in half, with Pauric O, Kayleigh, Pete, David, Ian, Seán C and Janet deemed sinners, while Carla, DJ, Diego, Donal and Anna are saints.
The traitors have linked the seven sinners with the seven deadly sins: pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath and sloth. The sinners can win €500 for every correct pairing.
“Or the traitor could just tell us the answer?” David suggests. The groups laughs awkwardly.
In the end, they win €2,000... but Siobhán later announces it's just €1800. So, what happened?
Well the so-called saints were tempted: take a shield for themselves in exchange for sacrificing €200 from the cash pile.
The saints agreed before their individual meetings with Siobhán that they would all decline the shield for the sake of the group's prize pot. But Diego wavers.
Later, he refuses to admit it was him, emptying his pockets and doubling down on the lie, but many in the group are convinced it was him.
“It was Diego,” Anna fumes. “It’s all over his face.”
“I think a traitor has taken it to cause chaos,” Pauric O suggests, sowing some seeds.
It is Pete v Janet and everyone v David at tonight's roundtable.
Pete accuses Janet of “cackling” and showing no “empathy” following Sam's murder.
“I am not gonna lie, I didn’t want Sam to come back in,” Janet says. "I am sorry I didn't care." (Poor Sam!)
“We’re the most popular players in the game,” she continues, “It would make sense for one of us to be recruited... And I wasn’t recruited.”
Things start to get heated.
"If I stand up there and say I am a faithful, you're going to look like a HORRIBLE person," Janet fires at Pete.
Pauric O jumps in to defend the Corkman.
"It isn't fair for you to say because Pete is asking you a question he's going to look like a horrible person."
Tensions are also flaring between David and Pete, with David saying today he sees "a different Pete" and feels he has been recruited.
No one is taking the bait. Instead, Donal, Ian and Anna all question David’s faithfulness.
“After we were all elated after catching the fourth traitor, you said, ‘It’s getting a bit boring now’,” Anna says.
“As a JOKE,” David says, exasperated.
Unfortunately, he keeps weirdly having slip-ups with the word traitor, even though he is not one.
In the end, everyone votes him out. He stands up and reveals he is a faithful.
There is a shocked silence – save for Ian’s large “fuck!”.
You know what? We are secretly delighted that this bunch of faithfuls got a bit of a reality check.
Just before the credits roll, however, we get a hint that Carla may not be falling under the radar for much longer.
“I think there’s still an OG traitor in the mix,” Seán C, tells Donal. "I think it’s Carla.” Later, he whispers the same to Ian.
Now, with suspicion in the air, will Pauric O sell out our OG traitor and ride the road to the end with his boys?
