Streaming: Silo, Apple TV, Friday, July 3

Season three of Apple TV’s Silo starts this weekend. The basic, spoiler-free premise of the show, in case you need to catch up: In a ruined and toxic future, thousands like in a giant silo deep underground. After its sheriff breaks a cardinal rule and residents die mysteriously, engineer Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) starts to uncover shocking secrets and the truth about the silo. With a great cast including Rashida Jones, David Oyelowo, Common, and Tim Robbins, the show has built up a dedicated fanbase since it debuted in 2023, having been adapted from the Silo trilogy of novels ( Wool, Shift, and Dust) by Hugh Howey.

Natasha Bedingfield, Pete Tong, and The Saw Doctors lead the line-up at Kaleidoscope this weekend. The family-friendly festival offers plenty for all ages, from Dustin the Turkey (guaranteed to delight the parents) to Oasis and Smiths tribute acts. The Gaiety School of Acting and the National Reptile Zoo will also keep the little ones entertained, making it the perfect gentle introduction to festival life for younger crowds.

The theme for this year’s Clonmel Junction Arts Festival is Exchanges and features a rich mix of music, visual arts, theatre, dance, street spectacle, talks, film and workshops. Music highlights include Donegal’s virtuoso guitarist and singer Muireann Bradley (still only 19) and Bell X1’s Dave Geraghty. Theatre standouts include the Edinburgh Fringe hit The Horse of Jenin by Palestinian actor and comedian Alaa Shehada, and Luke Casserly’s Distillation — a sensory, performative journey through the Irish bog created in response to the end of peat harvesting.

Gig: Kneecap Live at the Marquee, Monday, July 6

FENIAN is one of Tom Dunne’s albums of the year so far and Kneecap bring their sophomore effort to Cork for what’s sure to be the most exciting Monday night of the summer. It comes just over a week since they played the biggest headline show of their career at the 25,000-capacity Crystal Palace Park in London which featured an (almost) all Irish line-up. Following a dance-heavy weekend with Belters Only and Dec Pierce’s Block Rockin’ Beats, the Marquee continues its run with a sold-out Kesha show on Tuesday and singer-songwriter Tom Grennan on Thursday.

Comedy: Alison Spittle, De Barra’s, Clonakilty, Thursday, July 9

Renowned for her standout appearances on House of Games, Celebrity Gogglebox, and Pointless Celebrities (which she won), as well as her uproarious podcast Ignore That Feeling with Fern Brady, Alison Spittle returns to De Barra’s with her latest show Big. She delivers a hilarious — and often furious — hour about the chaotic changes that the last year of her life has imposed upon her. It all kicked off when a man on the train told her to sit down. From there, she fearlessly tackles misogyny, sexuality, classism, death, and yes… M&Ms.
