Tracy Clifford has landed a new gig with RTÉ Gold, following her departure from RTÉ 2FM last month.

The radio presenter departed the station after more than a decade presenting The Big Tune Afternoon show, as part of a scheduling shake-up at the station.

Her announcement was met with an outpouring of love from her loyal listeners, who will be happy to learn that their ‘queen’ of radio is back on air from this Thursday.

Clifford will be back on the airwaves of RTÉ Gold for a brand new weekday show.

Daytime Gold will bring listeners three hours of the greatest music every weekday from 10am to 1pm.

Acknowledging the support she received after posting the news of her departure from 2FM to Instagram in early April, she thanked listeners on air in an emotional sign-off during her last show on April 24.

“And here we are. I am so overwhelmed by the love from you listeners. And I honestly don’t know what to do with it all,” she said.

Becoming emotional, she continued: “After 10 years of us getting to know each other, my dear listeners, you’ve been so good to me. It’s been a joy. Over the past couple of weeks, the messages from you guys from here and across, the flowers, the gifts, the 'Cliffbanger' jumpers, the merch, the mugs, the thoughtfulness has reduced me to a blubbering mess, as you can hear.

“This show is all down to you guys tuning in for over a decade, and us connecting through the tunes, with the chats and the popstars and the incredible Irish artists and beyond.

“It's been busy mums and dads collecting their kids from school, bonding together, playing Panic.”

Opening up about her departure, Clifford said she was "not really sad" but said it is the realisation of “the incredible power and connection that radio has, especially music radio” that made her really emotional.

"In a world where there is a lot of noise, I really hope this little radio show gave you something. The notion that the opening bars of a song can scream the weekend has landed and get you revved up is just beautiful,” she said.

In her closing words, Clifford thanked her listeners and invited them to follow her on her next chapter.

On Tuesday, it was revealed what that next chapter would be.

The announcement was met with well-wishes and messages of congratulations on social media.

“There she is. Queen Clifford,” Lottie Ryan posted.

Also among those to congratulate Clifford were Six One News presenter Sharon Tobin, 2FM presenter Roz Purcell, and Today FM presenter Alison Curtis.

Meanwhile, the change in scheduling at 2FM, which debuted earlier this month, saw Cork actress Demi Isaac move into the 12pm slot, presenting 2FM Afternoon alongside Mikey O'Reilly.

Touching on the shake-up in 2FM’s scheduling back in April, Clifford said she was “excited” for listeners to hear the next chapter of afternoons on 2FM.

  • Starting this Thursday, Clifford will be playing three hours of the greatest hits on Daytime Gold from 10am to 1pm each weekday on RTÉ Gold.
