Kilkenny Roots Festival, various venues, May 1-4

Running since 1998, Kilkenny Roots Festival has grown over the decades and boasts a huge range of music across 30-plus venues. Philadelphia alt-country seven-piece Florry make their Irish debut on Saturday in a coup for the festival.

Aisling Bea, Cork Opera House, May 1 

Bafta- and British Comedy Award-winning Irish stand-up Aisling Bea brings her new show Older than Jesus to Cork on May 1. There will be tales of travel, home, immigration, history, sex, babies, music, lovers, and enemies as Bea seeks to answer life's big questions.

As Miranda Priestly nears retirement, she reunites with Andy Sachs to face off against her former assistant turned rival: Emily Charlton. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt all return for a sharp-tongued follow-up to the 2006 hit.

Féile na Bealtaine, Various venues, Dingle, Until May 4 

The community and arts festival comprises five days of release and renewal around the theme of birds. With theatre, poetry, spoken word, music, art, and dance, one of the highlights will see MayKay lay aside her Other Voices presenting duties to play a set at St James' Church.

The House Must Win, The Everyman, Cork, May 6-16

A musical drama written by Mick Flannery and based on his debut album Evening Train, The House Must Win is directed by Julie Kelleher and stars Tommy Tiernan, making his musical theatre debut Set on the western edge of Ireland in the 1970s, it follows two brothers living with the odds stacked against them.

Jenny Keane, various venues, May 20-26 

Jenny Keane brings The Orgasm Tour around the country in May. The show promises a blend of laugh-out-loud comedy, captivating performances, and life-changing sex education. On a mission to dismantle sexual taboos, Keane is at the Everyman, Cork on May 20; Set Theatre, Kilkenny, on May 23, Dublin’s Ambassador Theatre on May 24, and Black Box in Galway on May 26.

Paul Simon, 3Arena, Dublin, May 20 

The legendary singer-songwriter Paul Simon brings A Quiet Celebration Tour to Dublin as part of an EU trip. The show opens with a performance of the Grammy-nominated album Seven Psalms in full, followed by classic hits and some rarely performed pieces, all arranged specifically for this tour.

Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Cyprus Avenue, May 27 

Mexican acoustic/metal duo Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero celebrate 20 years of their self-titled second album. Currently on tour in the US, they play the National Stadium in Dublin on May 25, Dolan’s Warehouse in Limerick on May 26, and Cork’s Cyprus Avenue on May 27.

My Therapist Ghosted Me star Joanne McNally brings her latest stand-up show Pinotphile to the Opera House. It follows the smash-hit show The Prosecco Express as she navigates situationships, revenge, frenemies, and rejection.

The Mandalorian and Grogu, May 22 

After three seasons of The Mandalorian on Disney+, which took place across the galaxy in fan-favourite settings, The Mandalorian and Grogu takes the story to the big screen for the first Star Wars cinematic event since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. Pedro Pascal returns as Mando alongside loveable Grogu.
