Five For Your Radar: CMAT's mighty homecoming, Kill Bill in its entirety...
CMAT plays the 3Arena in Dublin on Friday night; and right, Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair is in cinemas this week.
The culmination of an epic five-year journey for everyone’s favourite Dunboyne Diana. Nurtured in her bedroom during lockdown, Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson aka CMAT has played here, there, and everywhere on her way to a long-sold-out 3Arena on Friday night. It’s off the back her all-conquering third album Euro-Country - which might even have had an effect on the presidential election this year. We doubt Bertie Ahern will be in attendance.
Quentin Tarantino unites Volume 1 and Volume 2 into a single, unrated, 4.40-hour epic - presented exactly as he intended, complete with a new, never-before-seen anime sequence. Uma Thurman stars as The Bride, left for dead after her former boss and lover Bill ambushes her wedding rehearsal, shooting her in the head and stealing her unborn child. To exact her vengeance, she must first hunt down the four remaining members of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad before confronting Bill himself.
MoLI marks the launch of Tolka’s 10th issue this First Friday with an evening of workshops, discussion and readings. Adults can join Kevin McDermott for a creative writing session, while Leon Dunne leads a spoken-word workshop for teenagers. Tim Groenland speaks with Tolka’s editors about running what they call “a journal of formally promiscuous non-fiction”, before contributors including Rob Doyle, Wendy Erskine, John Patrick McHugh and Hannah Sargeant read from the new issue.
Fresh off sold-out shows across Ireland, the UK and the US, Jarlath Regan returns with a work-in-progress run that promises the sharp, warm, sideways humour he’s built his following on. This pair of West Cork dates offer a first look at new material as he tests out stories, riffs, and half-mad notions destined for his next full tour - a chance to see “Yer Man” off Instagram up close, loose, and funnier than ever.
Connolly’s of Leap celebrates a decade of boundary-pushing music, wild nights, and unforgettable moments with a huge 10th birthday bash on Saturday. Headlined by the legendary Belfast DJ and producer David Holmes, the night also features long-time friend of the venue Arveene, all-round energy source Shamon Cassette, and Bon Voyage, a collaboration between the latter two. It’s a powerhouse of artists who’ve helped shape the venue’s recent story.
