Five For Your Radar: Wicked, Stranger Things, My Bloody Valentine...
Aladdin is at Cork Opera House from November 26; right, Eleven returns in Stranger Things on Netflix for Volume 5 Part 1.
The sixth edition of this cosy winter warmer invites audiences to gather in some of Cork’s most cherished venues to experience a programme that showcases rich musical encounters. Among the highlights at Live at St Luke’s over the weekend are Rich(ard) Dawson with Elaine Howley on Friday, Lisa O’Neill with Elaine Malone on Saturday, and wrapping up with Iceland’s Múm on Sunday, with support from former Saint Sister Gemma Doherty. Elsewhere, Triskel features a collaborative set from Iarla Ó Lionáird, Cormac McCarthy, and Caoimhín O Raghallaigh while Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin and Ultan O’Brien return to Coughlan’s.

The second chapter of the record-shattering Broadway phenomenon follows last year’s Oscars-baiting singalong smash. Directed by Jon M Chu, Cynthia Erivo is back as Elphaba with Ariana Grande as Glinda, exploring friendship, betrayal, love, and the true cost of standing up for what’s right. While it may not have a Defying Gravity-style showstopper, it’s certain to be just as spectacularly colourful as its predecessor.

My Bloody Valentine return to Dublin for their first headline show on home soil in 33 years. Kevin Shields, Bilinda Butcher, Deb Googe, and Colm Ó Cíosóig will bring the full, deafening experience of and to the 3Arena having played a not-so-secret warmup show at the National Stadium on Wednesday night. It’s over seven years since their last performance and marks a return to the stage for UK and Asian dates as well as a slot at Primavera in Barcelona next summer. Legendary doesn’t do them justice.

Almost 10 years after it turned Netflix upside down, the end is finally in sight for Season 5 - Volume 1 arrives on the streamer at 1am Wednesday, with four feature-length episodes before another drop on Christmas Day. It sees Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) reuniting with the Hawkins gang as they prepare for a final confrontation with Vecna. Plot details are closely guarded, but trailers hint at an emotional and action-heavy sendoff. The end of an era starts now.
Aladdin, Nanny Nellie, and a host of loveable companions star in a spectacular show packed with amazing colour, spellbinding costumes, magical live music, breathtaking dance, and a tonne of belly laughs. Created by the “genie-us creative team” who produced last year’s Cork Opera House panto Cinderella, Aladdin promises a thrilling magic carpet ride that will captivate and entertain audiences of all ages.
