Sharon Horgan, Ruth Negga and Colin Farrell have all been nominated for Primetime Emmy Awards.

Colin Farrell, Sharon Horgan and Ruth Negga are in the mix for some of the biggest awards in television, having secured nominations for this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards.

The Irish trio received their nods for their roles in The Penguin, Bad Sisters and Presumed Innocent, respectively.

Mr Farrell is seen as the likely winner in the category of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his titular role playing the infamous bête noire of superhero Batman.

The Dubliner, 49, has already won multiple awards for his portrayal of the Penguin but will have to fend off competition from the likes of Jake Gyllenhaal ( Presumed Innocent) and Stephen Graham ( Adolescence) in his category.

Ms Horgan, meanwhile, is up for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Eva Garvey in the second season of Bad Sisters, a show she co-created and has also written many of the episodes.

She also faces stiff competition in her bid to secure an Emmy, up against actresses including Kathy Bates ( Matlock), Britt Lower ( Severance) and Bella Ramsey ( The Last of Us).

Ms Negga has been nominated for her role in Presumed Innocent in the Supporting Actress in a Limited Series category, as she played the spouse of murder accused Jake Gyllenhaal.

However, while they had been touted as potential nominees, there was no place for Bridgerton actress Nicola Coughlan or Lola Petticrew for her role in Say Nothing in the Emmy nominations list.

Leading the nominations at this year’s awards is psychological thriller Severance, with 27 nods for the Apple TV series.

Mr Farrell’s The Penguin is close behind with 24, with 23 apiece for tense thriller The White Lotus and Tinseltown satire The Studio.

In the mix for the hotly contested prize for top drama are Severance, The White Lotus, Andor, The Pitt, The Last of Us and Slow Horses.

For the top comedy prize, meanwhile, among the nominees are The Bear, Only Murders in the Building, What We Do in the Shadows and The Studio.

In the separate award for a Limited or Anthology Series, The Penguin will again face competition from Adolescence, Black Mirror, Dying for Sex and Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

The Primetime Emmy Awards will take place in Los Angeles on 14 September.
