Friday, December 20 

A musical prequel to the 30-year-old animated original, Mufasa offers us the origin stories for the title character and his eventual adversary Scar. It’s directed by Barry Jenkins (Moonlight) with songs and score composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton) and features the voice of Blue Ivy Carter, Beyonce’s daughter, as Kiara.

DJ: Backstory Christmas Special with Donal Dineen

Fresh from filling in for John Kelly on Lyric FM’s Mystery Train this week, Donal Dineen returns to the hallowed West Cork venue for another instalment of Backstory, a night of tunes shining a light on all corners of the world. Special guest is Hewan Mulugeta, a Dublin resident DJ originally from Ethiopia.

The idiosyncratic Cork-born, London-based pop musician Yenkee aka Graham Cooney makes a triumphant return home for a headline show at the church in St Luke’s.

Yenkee released their brilliant and long-awaited debut album Night Golf in October and this gig should prove a hole in one.

TV: Kabin Crew’s Christmas Special 

Tuesday, December 24, RTÉ 2 

What an incredible year it’s been for the Kabin in Knocknaheeny, Cork, and its gang of rappers the Kabin Crew, who enjoyed viral success with the inescapable good vibes of ‘The Spark’. This special features new songs and a Christmas music video, as we get to know the Kabin Crew's members a little better.

 Season one of Squid Game in 2021 was a phenomenon, becoming Netflix’s biggest ever show and even a real-life version of the deadly game. It doesn’t give festive vibes but the team has reassembled for another season. Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) is risking it all to play again.
