Cork singer Stephanie Rainey has an agonizing wait ahead of her as she hangs on to find out her future on America’s Got Talent.
The Red FM presenter performed to judges on Tuesday’s live quarter-final, in a bid to secure a place in the semi-finals.
Despite an impressive performance, Rainey failed to get the golden buzzer which would have guaranteed her a place in the next round.
For the quarter-final show, she sang Woman, a song she had written herself about her mother’s cancer.
Her feedback from the judges was positive, with Sophie Vergara saying Rainey’s presence on stage felt “so personal”, and Howie Mandel saying her songs were “powerful”.
He added, however, that something was missing on stage.
Top dog Simon Cowell said that production left out minor details, but her singing was impressive enough to get her votes to progress to the next round.
Other contestants on the night included Brent Street, Erica Rhodes, Illya & Anastasia Strakhov, Jonathan Burns, L6, Oscar Stembridge, Pranysqa Mishra, Sebastián and Sonia, Solange Kardinaly and Tonikaku.
Aerialists Sebastián and Sonia took the golden buzzer from the evening, which was pressed by Cowell after he was moved by the fact that the latter had fractured her arm during rehearsals, leaving the former to perform the routine by himself.
"That is the definition of courage. You don't give up," Simon said on the stage after an emotional shower of confetti.
Voting for America’s Got Talent closes at noon Irish time today, but viewers in Ireland are not eligible to vote.
The results will be broadcast on Wednesday evening in the US. Hopefully Irish viewers wake up to good news for one of our own!
