Beta Da Silva has been revealed as the new presenter of 2FM’s drivetime show “for the next while”.

The announcement comes after speculating surrounding Lottie Ryan’s exit from the show. However, the 2FM star set the record straight by stating that it had always been agreed that her time in the role would be “for a five-week stint”.

“The term 'summer schedule’ has led to some confusion, implying a 12-week duration,” she clarified in a post to social media.

Lottie Ryan and David O’Reilly had been presenting the drivetime show after Tipperary natives the 2 Johnnies announced their departure in May.

Beta Da Silva has been presenting the station’s New Music Show but will be stepping away from that slot as he steps into the drivetime role. The broadcaster said he would be taking over the slot “for the next while”.

In a post to Instagram, Da Silva said he is “ticking another one off the checklist”.

“I’m stepping away from The New Music Show for a little bit because for the next while I’ll be holding it down on Drive time.

“A huge honour and privilege to be able to have an opportunity like this in this phase of my career and I’m very thankful to those who have trusted me enough to present a massive [and] important show like this.

“So many highlights in the last few years that I can’t forget; Overnight shows, Weekend Breakfast, presenting from EP live, presenting Choice Music Prize live, covering for OG Tracy’s show [and] most memorably, being able to contribute and shine a light on Irish music in the country [and] beyond. Very surreal that I get to add another to the list. All these things have [led] me to where I’m at today [and] I’m very grateful.”

Last month, former Irish rugby Donncha O'Callaghan announced his departure from 2FM after five years, following in the footsteps of his Breakfast Show co-host, Doireann Garrihy.

Along with the 2 Johnnies, Jennifer Zamparelli has also left her show at the RTÉ radio station with Laura Fox replacing her.

Speaking on Da Silva's new role, an RTÉ spokesperson said: "Beta Da Silva has been a 2FM presenter since October 2021, having previously presented on RTÉ Pulse. Since then, Beta has built a strong reputation as the go-to show for new music, and has hosted take-over specials with musicians including James Vincent McMorrow, Villagers, Gavin James and Kojaque. Join Beta for all the latest hits on 2FM Drive, weekdays from 3-6pm on 2FM."
