Children’s books reviews: Dinosaur-changing pies, mysteries and a fairy-tale tour of Cork
Jen Wallace, aided by Alan O’Rourke’s expressive illustrations, succeeds in tapping into the obsession many children have with dinosaurs by imagining how it might feel to become a real-life Deinonychus.

His mates accept the changed Rory pretty readily (once he remembers to follow the new no-eating-friends rule); in fact one of them is so impressed that her first reaction is to ask if there is any more dinosaur pie available.


The police are under pressure to make an arrest for the high-profile theft and assume that one of the railway staff working on the train at the time must be the culprit.


The bears join a newspaper seller in shouting ‘Echo’ outside the GPO, en-route to the English Market to select a suitable cake for their special friend, who unlike the reader has not yet guessed that she is both gift adviser and intended recipient.
