Director Jane Schoenbrun had plenty credit in the bank since making 2024’s word-of-mouth, Spielberg-aping space oddity I Saw the TV Glow in 2024. She’s followed it up with the brilliantly named Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, the latest critically acclaimed horror hit in a year full of them. The plot: A director making a slasher sequel becomes obsessed with casting the original film's 'final girl,' leading both women into psychological and sexual chaos.

TV: An Irish Atlantic Rainforest

RTÉ One and RTÉ Player, Sunday August 23

An Irish Atlantic Rainforest: The Story of a West Cork Rainforest begins Sunday, August 23, on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.
An Irish Atlantic Rainforest: The Story of a West Cork Rainforest begins Sunday, August 23, on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.

This two-part documentary follows environmentalist and author Eoghan Daltun's efforts to restore a native Irish rainforest on the Beara Peninsula. After leaving Dublin for a derelict West Cork farm in 2009, Daltun began rewilding the land, allowing nature to reclaim an ecosystem damaged by overgrazing and invasive species. It’s based on his bestselling book of the same name.

Gig: Deftones

The third and final big August show at Imma finds alt-metal mainstays Deftones headlining a great bill that includes incendiary live band IDLES and South African punk Ecca Vandal. Deftones, led by Chino Moreno, haven’t played Ireland too often over the decades, though this is their second show here since they headlined the 3Arena in February. Moby and Faithless bring a very different bill to Imma on Friday, August 21.

Theatre: Sídh: Stories of Women from Irish Mythology

Cork Arts Theatre, Thursday-Saturday, August 27-29

Sídh is at Cork Arts Theatre from August 27.
Sídh is at Cork Arts Theatre from August 27.

Drawing on Irish mythology and the seanchaí tradition, Sídh is a new storytelling performance created by Úna Ní Bhriain and Jenny Whyte. Through tales of goddesses, warriors, queens and otherworldly figures, the production explores themes of power, resilience, love, and transformation. Blending traditional storytelling with contemporary theatre, Sídh offers a fresh take on some of Ireland's most enduring myths.
