Aran Murphy will make his big screen debut in an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro's novel

Aran Murphy, son of Cillian Murphy will hit the big screen with the movie adaptation of Klara and The Sun

Irish actor Aran Murphy has joined the cast of Klara and The Sun, Deadline reports. 

The son of Oscar-nominated Cillian Murphy has previously appeared as the lead in the stage adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s Hamnet. 

The show toured from Dublin to London, continuing on to New York, Boston, Brisbane, and Hong Kong. Aran first appeared on stage when he was just 11 years old, with his one-hour solo performance earning praise from the New York Times.

Klara and The Sun will be directed by Taika Waititi and will also star Amy Adams ( Enchanted), and Jenna Ortega ( Wednesday). Shooting is due to start in the coming weeks in Australia and New Zealand. 

Written by British novelist Kazuo Ishiguro, who also penned Remains of the Day, Klara and the Sun follows Klara, an artificial friend designed to prevent loneliness. Klara is purchased by a mother, and a teen named Josie, who adores her new robot companion, but suffers from a mysterious illness.

Adapted by screenwriter Dahvi Waller, the film is the story of Klara’s quest to save Josie and those who love her from heartbreak and how in the process Klara learns the power of human love. It's a sweet and sad novel with the main character Klara showcasing events through her own eyes, not fully comprehending what's happening around her. 

Aran Murphy — represented by The Lisa Richards Agency and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern — will mark his feature film debut as Rick, Josie’s best friend and next-door neighbour.

Waititi, who is producing the film with David Heyman and Garrett Basch for Heyday Films, has some interesting credits to his name. 

His previous films include Thor: Love and Thunder, starring Chris Hemsworth and Christian Bale. The director is also known for directing the 2019 comedy film Jojo Rabbit for which he earned the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Author Ishiguro is executive producing. Klara and the Sun is a 3000 Pictures and Sony co-production.

Aran, born in 2007, is Cillian Murphy's second son with wife Yvonne McGuinness. The couple have another son, Malachy, 18. The family live in Dublin.
