Breda Mikoloff, Australia: He will live on through his music. RIP Shane.

Sean O'Sullivan, Cobh: Farewell Shane MacGowan. You are big loss. A true legend and a musical genius. Sincere condolences to your wife and family. RIP

Mary Haybyrne Nguyen, Drimnagh, Dublin: Thank you Shane for the memories. Fairytale of New York in America and Dublin... prayers for your wife and family. God rest you Shane.

Aidan O’Callaghan, Cork: Rest in peace Shane, one of the best song writers the world has seen.

Tony Ratton, Sunderland: Shane, a genius, legend and an inspiration. RIP Tipp’s finest.

Desmond O'Brien, Dalkey, Co. Dublin: May he rest in peace!

Niamh Ní Liatháin, Cuil Aodha: Met Shane and the band after a gig in the Gleneagle in Killarney a few years ago. He sat at our table in The Brehon, best birthday present my husband ever got, to meet with one of his heros. He was so talented and a pure gentleman. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilis.

John Nestor, Galway City: Another Irish genius has said goodbye to us all. So so sad. Rest in peace Shane.

Liam Brady, Sussex: I enjoyed Shane’s music down through the years. He was a strong voice for the many Irish people living in the UK in the 80s. His character and his music will never be forgotten. RIP.

Derek Maycock, Dublin: A musical genius and a character. Will be sadly missed but will be fondly remembered, particularly at Christmas. It’s not Christmas until you hear and sing along to Fairytale of New York. To Victoria and family.

Seamus Shakey Greaney, Swinford Co Mayo: Shane gave me a litre bottle of Nicolas red wine at the back of the TF theatre in Castlebar circa 1989. Even though you wouldn't strip paint with the wine I drank every drop because Shane Mc Gowan gave it to me. Thanks for the songs, sleep well you legend.

Mary Tobin, Cork City: I attended many of Shane MacGowan & The Pogues concerts over the years. Shane was unique a very talented songwriter. May he RIP. Deepest sympathy to his wife, dad, sister and extended family.

Eoin Doyle, Limerick: Farewell Shane, your music warmed our hearts while living abroad and still does when back home. A beautiful songwriter.
