Gina and the Champions have been forcedto cancel their show at the Cork Opera House on Sunday evening due to illness.

The pop group, formed in Cork in the 1970s, were due to perform in their home county tonight.

However, in a statement on Sunday afternoon, Gina said that a very sore throat would prevent that happening.

She said: "It is with a heavy heart that I come to you with the following news, unfortunately I am unable to perform tonight’s show at the Cork Opera House as I am suffering from a very sore throat.

"This has been an extremely difficult decision to make as we have all been looking forward to spending a wonderful evening with you at Cork’s flagship venue.

"The good news is we will be rescheduling the concert for a later date."

She added that all tickets for tonight’s event will be valid for the new date but it is also possible for customers to get a refund for tonight’s event if they so wish.

She concluded :"My sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused and look forward to bringing our show to you in the very near future."

Cork Opera House are in the process of contacting patrons to inform them and will be in touch again with rescheduling and refund information.

They also wished Gina a speedy recovery.
