A multi-award-winning caricaturist who was commissioned to draw Dr Tony Holohan as Superman says he has been hugely surprised by the attention it has received, especially from the ladies.

Niall O'Loughlin was initially asked to capture the hugely popular Chief Medical Officer in cartoon form by a lady who was 'a big fan' but has been inundated with requests for prints from a large number of women since he posted the picture across his social media platforms over the weekend.

The caricature portrays the Doctor opening his suit outside a telephone box to reveal the Superman logo, which has been replaced with a Covid-19-free sign.

"It was definitely one of my more unusual commissions but I was just blown away by the attention it has received online, especially from women who were commenting on how great he is and tagging other women.

"Many of them have asked to buy prints of the picture.

"Dr Holohan is definitely proving a hit with the ladies," he laughed.

The artist from Dunboyne, Co Meath began the commissions after his business at weddings and events flatlined overnight when Covid-19 hit.

"Literally my business just died when all the events were cancelled. So I started offering commissions for Mother's Day and business just spiralled again.

"People seem to be loving the idea of a caricature at this time when people just want something to smile about.

"I thought I'd have loads of time to paint the house and do other things but I'm just inundated with commissions. I have to say Dr Holohan is definitely one of the most unusual but I guess it is an unusual time."
