These are the safest countries in the world for travellers

Travel doesn’t have to involve intrepid voyages through far-off lands. It can be about reasonably-priced health insurance, efficient policing, and well-regulated zebra crossings.

A new report, compiled by travel insurers Insurly, has trawled through everything from crime rates to earthquake stats to determine the world’s safest countries to visit, and the results range from the peaks of Central Europe to the shores of the Indian Ocean.

Ireland, the UK, and the United States clocked in at 21st, 29th and 44th respectively, while the war-torn nation of South Sudan came in last at 180th.

Cyprus pipped Iceland and Denmark to a top five spot on the strength of an all-round performance that posted 87 or more across the board. It doesn’t have the safest roads, the  lowest crime rate, or the world’s  best healthcare, but it’s pretty close on all counts.
