New €15 coin unveiled to mark Phil Lynott's 70th birthday

A new coin has been unveiled to commemorate Phil Lynott's 70th birthday.

The Central Bank has created 3,000 silver coins that will go on sale tomorrow.

The coin is the second in the three year series called 'Modern Irish Musicians', following the Rory Gallagher coin which sold out in 2018.

Next year, the Central Bank of Ireland will issue a coin to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the birth of Irish Musician Luke Kelly.

The collector's item was launched this morning at the Thin Lizzy singer's former school, St Kevin's College in Crumlin.

The coin will cost €65.

His uncle, Peter Lynott said it is a huge honour: "Look what he's achieved so far. A statue, the stamps, and now this coin. It's the picture of him. He's the rocker in it. A great thing is his two daughters are here today. They arrived last night."
