1. In the spotlight

Who likes being in the spotlight? Handmade in India, the design and reflection from the glimmering aluminium shade creates a very cool spotlight effect.

The desk lamp measures 35 cm highand rests on a wooden base; the shade is adjustable. The spotlight desk lamp is €119 and you can find it at The Pavilion in Ballygarvan.

2. Waterford Gallery of Art

The brand new Waterford Gallery of Art opens for its first public event at the Imagine Arts Festival on Saturday.

There’s a huge variety of visual art events across Waterford for the 18th annual Imagine Arts Festival including a retrospective exhibition of Rosemary Higbee works at GOMA Gallery.

Rosemary was born in India, lived inn England throughout World War Two and moved to Ireland in 1973, lecturing in art in Waterford. Influenced by the work of Picasso, Braque, Matisse and Bonnard, Higbee used brushes, palette knives and fingers to create her work.

Over 80 events are on offer with 55% of the events free of charge.

3. Eco-friendly

We’re all trying to do our bit to make our households a little kinder to the environment.

I was delighted to hear about Irish company, VivaGreen, who make eco-friendly products. But they’re not just hopping on the eco-trend electric bandwagon, they’ve been pioneers in sustainable practices for almost 30 years.

They’ve launched two new products: SnackSax, recyclable and 100% compostable paper sandwich bags perfect for packed lunches, and DeOdour Chemical-Free, a product made from natural minerals, which eliminates bad smells in bins.

SnackSax comes in a pack of 100 bags, €4.45, and DeOdour Chemical Free comes in a 400g shaker bottle (approx. 40 uses), €4.90, and both are available in Dunnes Stores nationwide.

See https://vivagreengroup.com/ for more.

4. Kitchenware

I spotted (get it?) an interesting partnership set to brighten up Irish homes with two new breakfast ranges from Russell Hobbs and Emma Bridgewater.

This Polka Dot Kettle is €79.99 and the range is available from independent electrical retailers nationwide.

5. Colourful landmarks

We love Jando’s contemporary, colourful representations of iconic landmarks. Check out this Cobh Cathedral print, it’s from the Irish Landmark Collection, hand-illustrated by Julie and Owen McLoughlin. JANDO is available in various sizes, and they’ve added some new prints, including the Bull Island Ladies’ and Men’s Bathing Shelter.

JANDO is available in over 70 stockists worldwide, including Kilkenny Shop, Jam Art Factory and JANDO.ie with prices starting from €20.

The dynamic duo also produce a range of contemporary greeting cards, notebooks and a series of screen-printed tote bags & tea towels.

6. Colour of the Year

Paint brand Dulux has selected a cool-tone shade of green as its Colour of the Year for 2020, which is meant to offer an antidote to an “increasingly disconnected” modern society.

Dulux say that that Tranquil Dawn “embodies the nation’s mood on the approach of a new decade”.

If you’re a fan of this gentle colour (which tends to change shade depending on what it is teamed with) you will be happy to hear that the So Simple Tom three-seater sofa (€779) and So Simple Tom armchair (€689) in Simply Velvet will be available in Tranquil Dawn from DFS from the 14th January 2020.

You heard it here first, folks!

8. The Bathroom Shelf

On the Bathroom Shelf this week, it’s a range for all you guys who want to keep the summer glow go for a little while longer. Bondi Sands ‘GLO’ products promise to enhance your summer tan and get a lustrous glow with options Gloss, Matte and Shimmer.

The texture is fab, it’s easy to apply, and the effect is that desired holiday glow — just add a Mojito and you’ll feel like you’re on the beach.

Our favourite is the GLO matte one day tan. Infused with innovative light reflecting particles to highlight, it gives a glistening bronzed finish. We tried it mixedwith our usual foundation to get a nice subtle sheen.
