Podcast Corner: Cork city gears up for inaugural Podcast Festival

THE inaugural Cork Podcast Festival takes place in various venues on October 11-13. The headline show is the West Cork podcast, which quickly sold out Cork Opera House (October 12, 8pm). Examining the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier, season one of the show, only available on Audible, is one of the best true crime series around. Season two is in the works, as the makers Sam Bungee and Jennifer Forde headed to Paris earlier this year to cover the trial in absentia of Ian Bailey. Expect some snippets at the live show.
The Creep Dive (Kino, October 13, 3pm) is one of the word-of-mouth hits in Irish podcasting this year. Mother of Pod hosts Sophie White and Jen O’Dwyer are joined by Cassie Delaney as they go beyond the headlines you might remember but never investigated. They’re very funny (a little too jokey, it can take a while for episodes to get going), foul-mouthed, but leave you hanging for the next detail. ‘It’s Never Plain Sailing’ is a particularly nerve-wracking 90- minute show.
