Earlier this week a Glanmire school in Co Cork introduced seven sets of twins starting their first day of secondary school.

Well, Bunscoil Mhuire in Youghal have them beaten.

This morning the school welcomed eight sets of twins into Junior Infants.

Teachers Sinead Kearney, Kate Hickey and Emma Kennedy were on hand to welcome India and Xavier Hennessy, Ciaran and Culainn Gleeson, Ella and Jay Flanagan, Natalia Starosolska and Mateusz Starosolski, Cornelia and Lillienne Gurgul, Aedan and Simon Calentier, Max and Noah Hogan and Aaron and Samuel Twohig.

Glanmire Community College said their seven sets of twins was not unique as they had also welcomed seven sets of twins last year.

They said statistically, the odds of the school taking in seven sets of twins two years in succession is 10,000/1.
