Online Lives: Makeup artist and blogger Aisling Regan

Makeup artist and blogger Aisling Regan uses her website and blog to showcase her skills and discuss trends and products.

She moved into the beauty industry after working in events management for two years.

“I worked in the industry for two years but it was very hectic,” Aisling said.

“I always realised that I love doing makeup on myself and others. So I went to study makeup with Vanity X and am now freelancing and working in a department store as well.”

She said while she loves writing about beauty and style, she sometimes struggles with writers block.

“I find when I am writing about topics I like, such as beauty or style, the words seem to flow when I write them down. I know this is a very common thing, but for a few months I did not know what to write because I felt like I was talking about the same thing and was trying to think of a different angle to look at things to write about and to try to expand on what I am writing about.”

Aisling enjoys sharing photos and product reviews on social media, which she said she uses every day.

My main platform I use is Instagram as I love taking pictures and the fact that you can use stories and Insta-tv. However, I also use Facebook to post blog posts and photos

“I mainly post about beauty products to compare, review or any events I attend.”

Despite a mostly positive experience, Aisling has encountered some negative comments online.

“Instagram and Facebook are great for promoting makeup products and reviews and comparisons. However, there will always be some people who do not like what you say about certain products, therefore you need to have a strong neck to want to keep going and because I feel I am very passionate about what I do, I just have to try to ignore the comments behind the computers and tackle the ones that want to bring you down.”

She said the Irish blogging community has been very supportive.

“Anyone who I have met within the blogging industry are some of the most genuine, down to earth people and very easy to get along with. They will encourage you to keep going and try your best, which is what you need sometimes. Especially in an industry which is so hard to get in to and to make a living from. They would always remind you that you are passionate about a certain thing and give you tips and advice on how to try to achieve this.”
