Scene + Heard: Maradona set to be star player at Cannes

The Cannes Film Festival (May 14 to 25) unveiled its roster earlier in the week, and amidst all the veteran directors and big name stars, we already know it’ll be a non-film figure who’ll dominate the red carpet at the event. Diego Maradona will be there for the premiere of the documentary bearing his name.
Due for general release in June, it was made by British director Asif Kapadia, who’s already impressed with documentaries on Amy Winehouse and Ayrton Senna. Ken Loach will also have a new film at the festival he’s done so well at in previous years, while the main Irish interest comes via sci-fi drama Vivarium, from Dublin director Lorcan Finnegan. Brendan Gleeson also appears in competition film Frankie.
