Irish twitter supports the boycotting of Sultan of Brunei’s nine luxury hotels

The people of the Irish Twitter world have joined the boycotting of the Sultan of Brunei’s hotels after the Asian nation, with a population of about 430,00, announced the introduction of anti-LGBT laws.

From April 3, anyone found guilty of homosexuality or cheating on their spouse could be whipped or stoned.

The new laws also introduced 40 lashes of a cane for women who have sexual relations with other women, while the punishment of 10 years in prison may also be given.

The Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, owns nine exclusive hotels, three of which are in the UK and two in Paris.

Following the news, a number of A-list celebrities, such as George Clooney, Ellen DeGeneres and Elton John called for a boycott of these hotels.

Irish Twitter users, including well-known Irish faces, posted on their various platforms in support.
