Irish women to be celebrated at 'The Business of Books' ahead of International Women's Day

A number of Irish women working in the literary field are to be celebrated this Thursday as part of Network Cork's 'The Business of Books' event.

Speakers include award-winning author of Distress Signals and founding member of The Inspiration Project Catherine Ryan Howard, Cork librarian Patricia Looney, West Cork Literary Festival organiser Eimear O'Herlihy, and Project Co-ordinator with the Educational Company of Ireland, Catriona Lehane.

PR and Marketing Manager at the Triskel Arts Centre and Network Cork President Gillian Hennessy encouraged women to attend, particularly if they are considering a career in the literary field.

Ms Hennessy said: "This is a unique and interesting event and we're delighted to welcome such a variety of panelists on the evening.

"I would encourage all women, whether you are a book lover, book club enthusiast, budding entrepreneur or creative spirit, to come and hear from these panelists about their diverse and interesting careers in a sector that is rarely discussed."

According to Ms Hennessy, the literary arts and publishing sector is thriving in Ireland and it is owed to the hard work and dedication of the speakers.

"It is making a real direct impact not only on the economy, but also by driving tourism in the form of festivals and by playing a key role in the education of our youth as well as opening up challenging conversations on societal issues.”

The event will take place in Vibes & Scribes bookshop on March 6 and tickets are free for members, or €25 for non-members.
