Best recent book:

I’m currently reading Whispering Hope, a book about the Magdalene survivors. Whilst it is a harrowing read I feel I am fulfilling my duty as an Irish women reading it and that I need to learn more. These are the amazing women that we come from, who were able to live through these horrendous times and demand justice.

Best recent film:

I adored Three Billboards. Frances McDormand was outstanding and I just love her bad-assery.

Best recent show you’ve seen:

On my Christmas holiday I went to see Girl from the North Country in London, the Bob Dylan musical by Conor MacPherson. It was incredible. Ciarán Hinds was heartbreaking and I couldn’t believe it was an original story. It also showed that musicals can come in a variety of forms, and the way Bob Dylan’s music was used was genius.

Best piece of music you’ve been listening to lately:

I’ve been obsessed with Childish Gambino’s ‘This is America’ and watching the video.

First ever piece of music that really moved you:

The first musical I fell in love with as a ‘grown-up’ was Sunday in the Park with George. I think that was when it clicked with me that you could tell a contemporary story through music, it didn’t have to be a fairytale.

Another eye opener was Pagliacci. When I discovered that score I understood the power of opera and the depth to which It can portray emotion and why it is such a complete and high form of art.

The best concert you’ve ever seen:

Eek! So hard. If I was to stick to concerts and exclude plays I think seeing Steve Reich’s ‘Different Trains’ at the Cork Opera House with him in attendance was an epic experience and introduced me to something new.

Tell us about your TV viewing:

It’s all about the documentaries for me, mostly historical ones. Anything Louis Theroux does. Current obsession is Narcos. And the occasionally the Kardashians. I’m not ashamed!

Radio listening and/or podcasts:

Russell Brand’s Under the Skin, and my hero Evelyn Grant on Lyric.

You’re curating your dream festival — which three artists are on the bill, living or dead?

Stephen Sondheim, Kanye West, Judy Garland.

Your best celebrity encounter:

Working with and being in the presence of Emma Thompson.

You can portal back to any period of human cultural history or music event — where, when, and why?

As a female entertainer, I’d only like to portal into the future please!

Do you have any interesting ancestors or family?

Proud granddaughter of two fantastic Cork singers. My grandad Pat Lynch, who passed away in January had three number ones here including ‘When we were Young’ and ‘Mending My Nets In Kinsale’.

We sang together often and he was such a huge part of my love of music. My maternal grandfather Con McGowen is a stunning show-band singer, classical baritone, and outstanding self-taught musician. I’m so lucky I have them both to look up to.

Unsung heroes:

Teachers and nurses. My sister is a primary school teacher and what she does is one of the most profound and generous things a human being can do.
