TRACEY Thorn has one of the most singular voices in pop — a steely quaver that can simultaneously convey heartache, tenderness and gentle yet unflinching resolve. It’s an instrument that has illuminated the acoustic music of her quasi-defunct band Everything But The Girl and Massive Attack’s 1994 masterpiece ‘Protection’ — and which she now deploys to stunning effect on her new solo LP, Record.
