Aoibhín Garrihy’s husband John Burke, has become the first Clare man to summit Everest.

The hotelier completed the feat in aid of Elevate, an organisation set up to help make wellness programmes available in youth organisations and secondary schools in the Clare area.

John is an experience climber and has previously spent time in the Alps tackling the likes of Mont Blanc and Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

During his climb, Burke sent this message home via the Ray D’Arcy Show.
