Hatichimals: The hottest Christmas present that’s impossible to get

As Christmas approaches, there seems to be one toy that every child is putting on their list for Santa: Hatchimals.

The Spin Master interactive egg toy is sold out almost everywhere and may not be in stock again after Christmas.

A statement on the company’s website reads: "The consumer response to Hatchimals has been extraordinary, exceeding all expectations. Some of our first shipments have already sold out. While additional product will hit retail shelves in November, we anticipate this inventory will also sell out quickly. We have increased production and a whole new batch of Hatchimals will be ready to hatch in early 2017.

“This is a special season and we don't want anyone to be disappointed, nor do we support inflated prices from non-authorized resellers. We are working on creative solutions to help kids and their parents withstand the wait. In the interim, some retailers are developing pre-sale and/or rain-check programs for redemption in January. We will continue to update with program details as they become available."

Cork mum Shauna Daly is worried she won’t be able to get one for her 4-year-old before Christmas.

“I asked him what he wanted off Santa and he said a Hatchimal, I thought no problem, I didn’t realise they were so hard to get.”

“You can reserve one, but there’s no guarantee you will get one… the waiting list is as big as Texas.”

The toy retails at €79.99 but people are selling them online for as much as €300.

Daly says: “I could get one right now if I was willing to pay €300, but I just can’t do it.”

She’s not alone, as other people on Twitter have been voicing the same complaints.

Santa has got a lot of work to do.
