Baby humpback whale helps push beached mother to safety

Good job, little one.

In perfect Friday feel-good news, a whale calf has been filmed helping push its mother to safety after she became beached.

The humpback whale had become stuck on a North Stradbroke Island sandbank off the coast of Queensland Australia.

Video footage shows the calf swimming close to its mother and nudging her in the side, while the mother splashes her tail to try free herself.

And eventually with rescuers from Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services on the way, the mother and calf's efforts paid off about 8:15 Australian time Friday morning and the whale was able to move off the bank and swim to deeper waters

It was the second time this week the pair had been stranded and a Queensland Parks and Wildlife boat is now trailing and herding all the whales in the area out to sea and away from the shallow water.
