Fox found trapped in city garden set free on Cork beach

An urban fox has been relocated to the countryside after getting stuck in a back garden in Cork city.
The fox was unable to get out of the garden, despite the residents of the home leaving out a ladder and some chicken to entice him back to the wild.
Eventually the family called the Cork Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals who came and removed the trapped fox from the garden.
The CSPCA decided to release the fox on a beach in the Cork countryside in order to give him a chance to get his bearings before deciding if he wanted to move back to the city or live a new life in the countryside.
CSPCA worker Vincent Cashman said urban foxes are now just as common as rural foxes.
They come to the city looking for food and become accustomed to living among humans.
Vincent said the best advice he can give about urban foxes is to leave them alone.
“They are not a threat to humans, they are not a risk, but we encourage people not to feed them as it usually brings them back.
“They are not a problem for humans but it really is best to not go near them.”
