Watch George Hook struggle to apologise to Johnny Sexton on The Late Late Show
George Hook apologised to Johnny Sexton on The Late Late show last night after much cajoling from host Ryan Tubridy.
George Hook threatened to sue Jonathon Sexton following comments printed in The Irish Times that suggested Mr Hook was making comment on the issue of the dangers of brain damage in rugby to sell newspapers and he did not believe what he was saying.
During the interview, Hook told Tubs his response to sue the paper and the rugby player had come from a fit of rage after hearing the comments.
“Do I regret what I did? I absolutely regret what I did.
“There is a situation I think when you are angry and you are hurt and when you are offended, you should really count up to ten –I didn’t get past one.”
After a powerful and thought-provoking speech about the dangers of rugby and his mission to bring awareness to the issue, Hook told Ryan he was not here to apologise to Johnny Sexton for threatening to sue him, but a few minutes later relented, delivering a somewhat tepid offering on live television.
In an anti-climatic finish to his bells and whistles speech Hook told Tubs he had no problem apologising to Ireland’s number 10.
“I regret it, what more do you want me to say, I regret what I did, -alright I’ll apologise to him to you.
“Is that okay? I’m fine with that?”
By the time the apology was given the whole thing was more a comical farce of Hook being badgered into a corner by his host than a genuine offering of remorse for his initial outburst of rage that led him to threaten to sue the 30-year-old rugby player.
We are not sure Johnny Sexton will be too impressed with this apology, but he might get a laugh out of it!
Check out this interview, it is well worth a watch.
