Lottery fans will be up in arms this evening as the National Lottery ticket terminals have crashed meaning potential lottery winners cannot buy a ticket for the big prize fund up for grabs tonight.

A total of €12m is in the pot for ticket holders to potentially win.

The website is also down.

In a statement, the National Lottery has said they're currently experiencing technical difficulties, and are working to resolve the issue.

Tonight's prize is heading for €12m as there have been no jackpot winners in the last number of weeks.

The National Lottery has urged patience as they work to restore service.

Shop owners are reporting long queues and say they haven't received any notification about the fault from the National Lottery as yet.

This is not the first time the ticket terminals have failed to perform when needed.

Last February, 3,500 terminals were out of action for a number of hours.

Following the problem, the midweek draw was deferred for the first time in Lotto history.

Will this be the second time?
