Twins born during New Year countdown have birthdays in separate years

It sounds like a riddle but it is a fact of life for twins Jaelyn and Luis, who are born on separate years.

The twins were born in San Diego, during the last few moments of 2015 and the first few minutes of 2016.

Older sister Jaelyn was born at approximately 11.59pm on December 31, 2015 while her brother Luis was born at 12.02am on January 1, 2016.

Their birthdays are not only unusual, but Jaelyn was also the last baby born in 2015 in San Diego and Luis may well be the first baby born in 2016.

The hospital said the twins are both healthy babies, Jaelyn weighs four pounds, 15 ounces and Luis weighed five pounds, nine ounces.

According to the hospital, the twin’s mother, Maribel works as a cashier at the San Diego International Airport and her husband Luis is a diesel mechanic for the United State Navy.

The couple also have a three-year-old daughter called Isabella.
