Incredible dashcam footage shows cop jump onto moving truck

Police in Nebraska have released footage of one of their officers performing some real life heroics from earlier this month.

The footage, dated December 2, shows a truck weaving dangerously near a populated area after being chased by members of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office for over 12 miles.

There was no sinister reason for the chase as it seems the driver had a diabetic episode while at the wheel.

Seeing the potential danger ahead Sergeant Todd Volk decided to quite literally leap into action. You can see from the dashcam footage from the car behind that Sergeant Volk and his deputy speed to get ahead of the truck.

Springing from his vehicle, Volk sprints across the highway and leaps onto the trucks steps - from there he gains entry to the cab and brings the 18-wheeler to a halt finally.

Speaking to NCN 35 Sergeant Volk explained the reasons for his heroic actions.

“As he came by, I could see the driver’s head slumped down and felt he was not conscious and it popped in my head that we need to get this vehicle stopped,” said Volk.

“At that point in time, the truck was travelling about 20 mph. I jumped back in my patrol vehicle, punched it, got up in front, jumped out, jumped up and grabbed the hand railing and the mirror on the side of the truck and hit the breaks.

“When we got in the truck, the driver was sitting there and I mean we found out later he was a diabetic and was having a diabetic reaction. His blood sugar was very low at the time.”

Volk felt he needed to do it as the truck was heading into the city of Norfolk and was going to go over a viaduct right into a busy intersection of traffic.
