WATCH: Divers escape great white shark attack by mere inches

Divers off the coast of South Africa can count themselves lucky after an extremely close encounter with one of nature’s deadliest predators.

While enjoying his honeymoon in Gansbaai, South Africa, American tourist Spencer Reilly decided to try out cage diving to look at some great white sharks (as you do) and filmed his experience.

The footage shows a great white shark emerge from the murky depths to slam into the cage at frightening speed narrowly missing one of the diver’s arms.

The shark had been chasing a bait line used by the dive organisers to attract the majestic beasts and Spencer uploaded footage of the incident to YouTube yesterday.

Over 115,000 views of the video have been amassed since it was uploaded and Spencer told 9News in Australia that it hasn’t been speeded up in any fashion.

“That should not have happened really, they don't like the shark to get too close to the cage but there was low visibility and the shark came at the bait extremely fast,” said Spencer.

“It was not too scary because it happened so fast, and then it was pretty exhilarating.”
