WATCH: All female space squad asked how they will cope without men

All the important questions were covered in a recent press conference interviewing an all-female squad taking part in a simulation experiment.

The women were asked about how they would get on without make-up, washing their hair and men.

The volunteers are taking part in an experiment where the women will live in a wood panelled suite for eight days to simulate a trip to the moon.

The simulation is being run by Moscow's Institute of Biomedical Problems, which is well known for its wacky research.

The experiment supervisor Sergei Ponomaryov said it would be interesting to see how the women communicate while the institutes director Igo Ushakov compared the female interactions to housewives sharing a kitchen.

The volunteers include scientific researchers, a doctor and a psychologist.

The experiment will simulate a flight to the Moon and back with the women carrying out a number of experiments over the time period in psychology and human biology.

Last year Russia sent its fourth female into space, despite sending the first woman in 1963, and the experiment supervisor called the latest excursion “a way of making up for lost time.”

Although the mission is being labelled a “giant step for gender equality” the volunteers found themselves answering questions such as how would they cope without make-up and men for eight days.

Unfaced by the bizarre line of question team leader Anna Kussmaul replied "We are doing work. When you're doing your work, you don't think about men and women."

The women will take on the conditions of those residing at the International Space Station.

They will have no shower and instead will wash with wet wipes.

They will have approximately an hour and a half of free time every day which they will use to watch films, read or play board games.

Team leader Yelena Luchnitskaya said she thought the group was ready for whatever would be thrown at them.

"I'm sure we all have the education, personal qualities and the upbringing, at the end of the day," she said.

"So far I can't imagine what would rattle us."
