People are divided on this 1916 Rising commemorative chocolate bar
Heatons department store has been criticised after unveiling a new chocolate bar to commemorate the 1916 rising.
The bar which costs €2.99 is available in stores now and features the leaders of the Easter Rising as well as a reproduction of the Proclamation.
The following photo was taken in the Tralee branch of Heatons.

Despite reports, the word 'Choclamation' doesn't appear on the label but many still feel it's disrespectful and cautioned against the commercialisation of the centenary.
James Connolly Heron, great-grandson of 1916 leader James Connolly, told RTÉ's 'Liveline' that the bar risked undermining the commemoration.
"There's so much more we can tell about the 1916 leaders than reducing them down to covering a chocolate bar."
Fianna Fáil councillor Malcolm Byrne called for the introduction of rules to protect the imagery of "a key part in our history", saying:
“We need to ensure how we make sure it is not overly commercialised,
To be truly patriotic, Heatons should have called it Choccy-árlá ! @AntonSavageShow

But others feel it provides an accessible entry point to the story of the Rising, especially for children.
I like Malcolm Byrne but totally disagree with him regarding 1916 chocolate, any measure that makes it more inclusive is welcome #liveline

A 1916 chocolate bar may be in bad taste but the idea of legislation to ban such things smacks of the lips of Fascism!Tom Clarke would wince

And one person pointed out the obvious oversight.
While the cakes have also started.
We've reached out to Heaton's for comment.
So disrespectful or just the start of the many harmless commemorative items that we'll see over the next few months?
