The first sorting ceremony of UCC is being held at the college on September 22.

Speaking to the vice auditor of the Minerva McGonagall of the UCC society, we can tell you that the college is very excited about hosting its first sorting ceremony, following in the footsteps of other Harry Potter societies across the country which have had sorting ceremonies for their students of the magical society.

At present, NUIG, DCU and UCD all have Harry Potter societies which carry out the rituals of fictional school Hogwarts that appears in the infamous novels written by the author J.K Rowling.

Sorting Ceremonies, where students are separated into one of the four houses of Hogwarts, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Gryffindor, are not the only tradition from the Harry Potter stories that are being brought to life by students of the societies.

At present UCC, NUIG, DCU and UCD are all looking to put on a Triwizard Tournament over the coming months and of course the magical sport of Quidditch is alive and well with hopes of an international tournament brewing in the not so distant future.

This is the first year UCC have had a Harry Potter society and it is being embraced far and wide with over 1,000 members across the college and almost 2,000 Facebook likes on their page Harry Potter Society UCC .

The sorting ceremony is taking place on September 22 in the Aula Maxima at 6.30pm and it will be followed by a series of activities where each house will have their chance of winning house points.
