71-year-old grandmother of 14 takes on the Junior Cert and wins

71-year-old Pamela Noonan was among the thousands of people celebrating the Junior Cert results yesterday.

And no, it wasn’t the results of one of her 14 grandchildren, she was celebrating collecting her own!

Pamela sat her exams at Limerick’s Further Education and Training Centre in June and told The Irish Examiner she was “over the moon” with her results.

“I left school very young, I was about 11. I had no education really because in those days you didn’t get an education you had to go out to work if you were able to, it didn’t matter what you could do; you had to go out to work to earn money,” she added.

“I would give anything before I die to do my Leaving Cert, I don’t know if I am foolish or not but I would love to do it.”
