VIDEO: Benjy the ‘gay’ Mayo bull has been castrated
Benjy the bull, who was saved from slaughter after being thought to be gay, has been given the snip.
The Charolais bull had been bought by a Mayo farmer for breeding purposes, but showed no interest in his female companions.

That all seems to be at an end for the bull now, as he has been castrated.
The sanctuary’s founder Wendy Valentine told the BBC last Saturday: “Judging by what he was trying to do the other day with one of the cows... he isn’t gay.”
Benjy’s castration was planned from the start however, as the sanctuary is only for rescued animals and they don’t want to become overcrowded.
Farm keeper at the Hillside Animal Sanctuary John Watson told the Irish Independent in November, before Benjy even arrived there, that the snip would happen.
