Weasel riding woodpecker commemorated forever in memorial sign

Last week, the world rejoiced in the bizarre yet wonderful image of a weasel apparently riding a woodpecker to the skies.

Sadly, it was not as friendly as it appeared, with wildlife photographer Martin Le-May confirming that the weasel was, in fact, trying to eat his feathered "friend" when he got taken for a ride.

But now, the site of the global internet phenomenon – Hornchurch Country Park – will never forget its 15 minutes of fame, thanks to a commemorative sign.

Made in the style of council signs throughout Britain, the new sign reads: Hornchurch Country Park, Home of the woodpecker-riding weasel". It also features a rather slick icon to denote the area as woodpecker-riding weasel zone.

The other logo on the sign, sadly, confirms that it's not the local council who erected the sign, but rather an advertising agency called Karmarama.

That means it's unlikely to last long, but it's the first step towards renaming the park "the woodpecker-riding weasel remembrance park."

Here's hoping.
